Established in 2005, MB&F stands as the world's pioneering horological concept laboratory. Boasting nearly 20 remarkable calibres as the foundation for the highly acclaimed Horological and Legacy Machines, MB&F continues to manifest Founder and Creative Director Maximilian Büsser's vision of crafting 3-D kinetic art through the deconstruction of traditional watchmaking.

Maximilian Büsser, after 15 years overseeing prestigious watch brands, resigned from his Managing Director position at Harry Winston in 2005 to establish MB&F—Maximilian Büsser & Friends. Serving as an artistic and micro-engineering laboratory, MB&F is dedicated to designing and crafting small series of radical concept watches. This is achieved by bringing together talented horological professionals whom Büsser both respects and enjoys collaborating with.

In 2007, MB&F unveiled its inaugural Horological Machine, HM1, setting the standard for the idiosyncratic Horological Machines that followed. These machines are designed not just to tell the time but to be expressions of art exploring space, the sky, the road, and the animal kingdom.

The Legacy Machine collection, launched in 2011, pays homage to nineteenth-century watchmaking excellence. These classical pieces reinterpret complications from horological innovators of the past, creating contemporary objets d'art. The LM series expanded with creations like LM101, LM Perpetual, LM Split Escapement, and LM Thunderdome, reaching a milestone with the creation of the first MB&F Machine dedicated to women, LM FlyingT, in 2019.

The letter "F" in MB&F stands for Friends, leading to collaborations with artists, watchmakers, designers, and manufacturers they admire. This collaboration resulted in two categories: Performance Art and Co-creations. Performance Art involves MB&F machines revisited by external creative talent, while Co-creations are not wristwatches but other types of machines engineered by Swiss manufactures based on MB&F ideas and designs.

To showcase these machines, Büsser envisioned placing them in an art gallery alongside other forms of mechanical art. The first MB&F M.A.D.Gallery (Mechanical Art Devices) opened in Geneva, followed by galleries in Taipei, Dubai, and Hong Kong.

MB&F's journey has garnered numerous accolades, including nine awards from the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, with the ultimate "Aiguille d'Or" awarded to the LM Sequential EVO in 2022. Other notable recognitions include the Best Men's Complication for LMX in 2021 and the Best Ladies Complication for LM FlyingT in 2019. These awards affirm the innovative and groundbreaking nature of MB&F's contributions to the world of horology.
